Written Analysis 4

The topic I chose was about people opinion on wearing engagement ring by the women. As we all know that different culture have their own way of doing engagement and we can see that many cultures uses engagement ring in engagement ceremonies. Engagement ring gives the meaning that both the male and female are bound with each other and are ready to bind in a relationship of husband and wife. Engagement ring is also a proof that both male and female exchange the engagement ring that means male has the proof that female has accepted his proposal and female has proof that male has accepted to make her his wife. Before, there was an eternal belief for this culture but nowadays the belief is not taken seriously. People have no any seriousness when engaging with each other. So, nowadays, some people have ruined the power of engagement ring which used to bind couples eternally. Although the meaning of engagement ring has faded in some extent, but there are many people who still have their faith and respect to the culture they have. Though, we can see the shapes, styles and materials have changes with modernization of society and status. As per the changing generation, the styles and materials inventions are also changing with respect to time.
The topic like invention and convention can also be related in my topic. In my view, I see both of them are interrelated with each other somehow. My topic best describes the part of the convention by; engagement ring is the starting point that binds two individuals to be husband and wife. As I said it also is a proof that both had the acceptance to live in a relationship to live with each other being a husband and wife. And other convention can be taken as when it is lost then it is taken as the bad omen or boding evil or fearsome. It is believed that both should protect the engagement ring as long as they live for each other. There is convention that wearing of this artifact leads to everlasting life of her husband and there will be always peace and the prosperity in their married life.
While talking about the invention part, the shapes, styles and the valuable materials are changing with respect in change of the generation. Before, people had the stereotypes about the ring should be of valuable materials but now these kind of stereotypes have faded to some extent. Now people uses engagement ring as per their capabilities and economic status. Some uses silver then some uses gold and there are also people who uses diamonds and other valuable components with different designs and style which they can afford. We can observe the change in styles and shapes of engagement ring.
When analyzing theses theories, I realized that the convention stays same throughout the time even though it may not be acceptable to some extent for some people because of carelessness of other people, while the invention may vary with respect to time, generations and modernization. As per my topic, the serious belief to the meaning of engagement ring till now is still constant and that describes the convention part whereas the physical modification or changing styles describes the invention part.

Journal Article Analysis

Grunge, Riot Grrrl and the Forgetting of Women in Popular Culture

Catherine Strong is addressing the disappearance of the woman’s position in popular culture; more importantly the disappearance of the woman’s role in “grunge” music.  The article focuses on what riot grrrl was exactly and the reasons behind the mysterious disappearance of woman’s contributions, and interviews taken from 43 participants involved with the music scene during the grunge era.  Catherine Strong compares the similarities between the two genres; riot grrrl, and grunge.  She approaches the issue with many ways; taking every possibility into consideration.  She put forward that female musicians mainly produce “pop” music rather than “serious” music that some male bands create.  She recommends that male reporters during the grunge era and current times may find more interest in male performers.  She also suggested that men may be better at leaving a legacy; creating, and maintaining archives/catalogs.  The interviews supported Catherine Strong’s theory of the disappearance of women’s role in grunge music.  The interviews taken were proof that the female bands of the era were not acknowledged, and even forgotten (Strong, 2011).
During the grunge era starting in the early 90s, “riot grrrl” started out as a group of females joining together within the music scene.  Catherine Strong explains, they joined together to address major issues that were viewed as taboo or embarrassing previously in time.  The movement held protests, and made appearances to address major female related issues.  Rape, sexism, and abortion were important topics that “riot grrrl” addressed.  Eventually the “riot grrrl” movement transformed into a genre of music.  Such bands as “Bikini Kill” and “Bratmobile” are the most notorious bands within in the genre, and some individuals believe they are responsible for its existence.  The article address how today’s culture has forgotten about “riot grrrl’s” impact on society has been forgotten over time.  She provides the reader with 43 interviews confirming her accusation.  The interview proves that most people that were even involved in the “grunge” scene have forgotten the female artists.  This is powerful and alarming evidence.  If the “grunge” enthusiasts do not remember the “riot grrrl” movement, then average music listeners may never hear of its existence at all.  Catherine Strong’s analysis concerning the issue strongly suggests, among other things, that men’s actions and views are to blame.  Male reporters and publicists favor male musicians and activists, leaving little evidence of the women’s role for future generations to remember. She suggests that men’s involvement and interest are stronger than females, outweighing the importance of women’s role.  Lastly, she suggests that men put forth more effort to secure their legacy by properly archiving/cataloging.  She does a very good job at providing many different possibilities for the occurrence.  Most importantly, Catherine Strong addresses the issue.  There may not be an exact reason, and her goal was not to acquire one.  She is simply attempting to grasp the public’s awareness (Strong, 2011).
I somehow agree with the fact of this article because it seems like Catherine Strong did not blame one group of individuals for the disappearance of woman’s role in popular culture, and does not resolve on one clarification for the problem. The women’s role in the “grunge era” as “riot grrrl” was massive, significant, and powerful; however the legacy has been erased.  In my view, the role of women have been forgotten because of the difference in popularity or women’s lack of interest as time progressed.  Even though “riot grrrl” was successful being popular during this time, the popularity diminished at a faster pace compared to the male musicians.  The reason for this disappearance could be that people do not still enjoy the music at this point in time. If woman maintained their interest in “riot grrrl”, perhaps the legacy would be stronger.  In order for a piece of history to evolve into a popular culture artifact, it needs to be significant and strong enough to demand popular culture’s attention.  “Riot grrrl” may have lost people’s interest over time.  If individuals are still interested in the genre, they are not taking any procedures to expose and preserve the artifact.  I do however; believe that since “riot grrrl” was such an important part of popular culture and the grunge era, something should be done to mark it in history.
After reading this article, I found that it this talked about a very important issue in popular culture. I found that women are being dominant and forgotten in popular culture.  The female bands of the grunge era were large and influential on their time, but the legacy has been cleared up now. This adverse state of affairs has created and is creating a flaw in music history.  There is no one specific or anything or anybody who is responsible for this fault; but publicists, archivists and sexism could be to blame. If women’s contributions have no importance or value in popular culture, a turning point of history remains lost. Overall, this was a great article for all and an interesting topic to gain attention for all publicists, musicians, authors and public.  If we can focus on this situation and be aware of it, it can help to relocate woman’s roles in the society and give some respect to them.

Written analysis 3

Heroes are the true people with the devotion and hard working who are the role models of the society.  The cult of the celebrity is the adore, commitment and admiration of individual recognition. In my point of the view both, the theories are applicable regarding my topic. Heroes and cult of the celebrity both the theories well define my topic. The wearing of the engagement ring by both the couple is defined as the respect, admiration and the commitment made by each other to remain their couple happily forever. The act done by both the part male and the female serve as hero to each other. They both believe that they are made for each other and they believe that they are the finest couple in the whole world. Moreover, as the cult of the celebrity, both are seen involving in loving and sacrificing each other for the sake of their love and care. The wearing of the engagement ring by married one and the one who is going to get married can become the example for all upcoming generation and preserve the generational respect for perpetual time.
After going through these theories, I gather the insights like: in the society, we can find the people of having both the evil and good characters. Evil people always play the negative role. They mistreat the woman especially. However, when they see woman wearing the ring in her hands, they become aware and remain aloof. They get the information that the woman is soon going to be married or already married. Such wrongdoers become aware of fake attempts.
These engagement rings contain both the religious and cultural beliefs. This ring is considered as the god’s blessing to the couple and ties the couple forever. Through the help of heroes and the cult of the celebrity, we can spread out the positive messages in the society and helps to eradicate the blind faiths and negative thoughts. These theories serve to be the role model to the people of the society and always influence the people to accept the positive path in their life. Hence, I believe that these theories provide valuable insight in our life.

Written Analysis 2

"People opinion on wearing engagement ring"
"Ritual" can be defined as action followed in systematic order in every society. It may have symbolic representation and values. It is also termed as action based on religious and cultural faith and practices. A ritual binds and holds ones cultural and religious heritages. It also varies according to society and cultures.
Stereotypes can be defined as the generalization based upon single characteristic of the group. It includes discrimination and domination of other cultures and religions, which tends to have negative impacts on every perspective. So, it should be avoided as far as possible.
Ritual of wearing engagement ring by women mainly occurs before marriage ceremony. It is a assurance to get married. Wearing engagement ring not just only assures to get married but it also bind two people in a relation of love. Engagement ring also tends to represent a symbol of acceptance by both. This ceremony is the first step before getting marriage, so, it is also known as symbol of assurance and acceptance. Wearing a engagement ring seems to be accepted by many different cultures in different countries but the ceremony are done as per their own culture.

There are somehow stereotype thoughts on wearing the engagement ring in Nepal.  Because almost most of the culture have a false belief that engagement ring should be of precious materials like gold and diamonds. Although there is no rules or any cultural belief or religious belief which focuses on the value of the material of the engagement ring, people tends to have a stereotype about having ring made up of valuable elements. If we focus in history there is nothing written that engagement ring should of valuable elements. So, here I think it just depend on the economic capability of the people whether to use valuable or less valuable elements, so, whatever the ring is made up of, it always symbolize same meaning.
At last, if we go through all the rituals and stereotypes, it concludes that the main thing we should focus is on what the engagement ring symbolizes, not on what kind of valuable element it consists. The value of elements of engagement ring only can be compare with the economic status of the people. So, these kinds of stereotypes should be strictly avoided.
